2007 and Earlier Photos

This first photo, by Karel Kramer is a wicked shot of Jeff Thomas grabbing some sick air at the infamous Billings hillclimb - and like the caption on the photo says, he's running 100% nitro on this run!  Next is Jeff getting interviewed (he's on the left), then a couple more action shots.

This first image is Harold Waddell on his CR500 sailing over "the wall" at Billings.  The force is strong in Harold's family - dad Gary and sister Sara climb too.  The second photo is Harold in the pits after a ride, and the third with his dad celebrating another great ride on his massive Suzuki.  The fourth pic is Harold on the gas on that fire-breathing monster at Tracy, CA.  The fifth pic, from the first Tracy, CA event in 2004, we have Harold flying through the timing lights on his newer GSX-R based Open bike - this was his winning ride (photo provided by DM Sports Photo)!  Then we have a close-up of Harold kissing the Team Trophy from the 2004 Hillclimb des Nations - dear old mom captured this tender moment on film!  Finally, Harold on his new nitro-powered machine.

Here's a Peterson family album - Robie in the first 5, Bret in the next 2 (with Robie in one team photo) and  father Kerry in the last 2,.  In the first two, Robie is riding their incredible 2,500cc Harley at the new Widowmaker - the next two are Robie at Billings, MT launching off the vertical top of the hill - one of these was published originally in Dirt Rider magazine, and I believe both photos were shot by Karel Kramer.  The 5th one is one of Robie that commemorates his 2002 class championship...then we have one of Bret charging the hill, and a poster-style photo featuring both of the dominating brothers.   The last two are Kerry at the old Widowmaker (at which he was all but unbeatable).

Here's the 2003 0-600cc Pro Altered Top Ten!  From the left, #1 Travis Whitlock, #3  Jon Smith, #4 Harold Waddell, #5 Mel Kimball , #6 Kenny Kimball, #7 Pete Krunich, #8 Donny Beer, #9 Robie Peterson (not pictured #2 Dusty Beer, #10 Pete Loomis)

...and the 2003 Open Pro Altered Top Ten!  From the left, #1 Travis Whitlock, #2 Harold Waddell, #5 Jon Smith, #6 Mel Kimball, #7 Kenny Kimball, #8 Kevin Bromenshenk, #9 Pat Liscum (not pictured #3 Dusty Beer, #4 Jason Smith, #10 Pete Loomis)

Here's our 2003 Overall Top Ten (sorry for the image quality...)  #1 - Dusty Beer, #2 - Travis Whitlock, #3 - Harold Waddell, #4 - Mel Kimball Jr., #5 - Jason Smith, #6 - Jon Smith, #7 - Kenny Kimball, #8 - Kevin Downs, #9 - Brian Osborn (not pictured - #10 - Pete Loomis).

These photos are of Kevin Bromenshenk - the first going "up the chute" at the top of the Billings hill, the second posing with his sweet open bike, the third pic is from Skip's at Carnegie, not sure about the next one, and then a great poster featuring his sponsors.  New on 4/8/04 are the next two, on his new Open bike at Tracy, CA.  Finally, new on 11/16/04 are the last two, from Columbus, MT.

In 2003, one of the Billings, MT events was attended by one of the most celebrated SX and MX riders ever - Jeremy McGrath!  Jeremy became a temporary member of Team Peterson, and rode their big 2,500cc Harley in the Open class.  In one of the greatest "what-if" ideas of all time, as in "what if Jeremy McGrath rode hillclimb," Jeremy wound up just shy of the big prize at the end of the day - Travis Whitlock emerged triumphant as the MT State Champion, while SuperMac graciously accepted 2nd place.  Here we have Jeremy and Robie Peterson scoping out the hill before the start of the event, then checking out the bikes in the Team Peterson pits, and the 3rd photo during an interview, flanked by Kerry and Robie Peterson.  The 4th picture is Jeremy on the line on a Team Peterson CR500, then on his way up the snaking hill.  Then we have a photo of Jeremy posing next to the 2,500cc Harley that he rode in the Open class, and finally the Mac Daddy shows off his Dirt Rider cover for their issue that covered the Billings event.  These photos were taken by Dirt Rider photographers Karel Kramer and Ken Faught (maybe more) and were supplied by/previously published by Dirt Rider.

Off-Road rider extraordinaire Shane Watts also competed at the very same event - here he jaws with Robie Peterson in-between rides...

Here Brian Osborn attacks the Billings, MT hill in 2003 on his way to a win in the Open Exhibition class.

This is John Howell on his nitro-burning Triumph on hills at Donner and in Wyoming.

This is the celebrated Kimball family, which has seen decades of impressive results, and looks forward to many more.  In the first photo Kenny Kimball, Mel Sr. and Mel Kimball Jr. celebrate together over Mel Jr's Open X class first place finish for 2003. Caught in the bottom of the photo is one of the next generation of Kimballs...as in the second photo, posing with their dad Mel Jr.  The third photo shows Kenny getting ready for a ride under the capable tutelage of Mel Sr. - you could hardly ask for a better teacher.  The last photo, provided by DM Sports Photo, shows Kenny parting ways with his bike at the top of the Tracy, CA hill in late 2004.

Here's a few photos of Kaleb Northrup taking his Yamaha R1 hillclimber for it's maiden voyage - at the Widowmaker!  Talk about a baptism of fire...  Notice how tall the sage brush is - you almost need barkbusters!

Here's some photos from the 2004 Hillclimb des Nations, courtesy of Team Peterson.  The first two are of the hill (sufficiently nasty for a world-championship event), then one of Robie Peterson, Dave Watson, and Bret Peterson eyeing the hill before riding - then facing the camera.  Notice that Dave Watson takes a turn as a member of Team Peterson, sporting their swank custom TLD riding gear.  The next pic is of the unique (and I'm sure quite spendy) awards that were presented at the HCdN.  Finally, we have a team picture of all the USA riders (that the Waddells sent in) - from left to right, the front row is Dave Watson, Robie Peterson, John Smith, Harold Waddell, Jeff Thomas, and Bret Peterson.  The 2nd row is Dusty Beer, Travis Whitlock, Jason Smith, and Mel Kimball.  And, of course, in the back is team manager Kerry Peterson.

These excellent shots are of Kelly Braswell, courtesy of Grey Squirrel Photography.

Here's some pics of top NAHA competitor Dusty Beer.  Dusty is ranked #2 in the 0-700cc Exhibition class and 7th in the Open Exhibition class in 2005 - but is certainly no stranger to the #1 plate.

Here's a big collection of photos from the 2004 Widowmaker sent in by Roger Martin at Assured Photos...in no particular order they are:  Dusty Beer (3 photos), Brandon Whitlock (2 photos), Brian Helton, Donny Beer, Dustin Quast, Harold Waddell (3 photos), Jason Smith (2 photos), Jon Smith, Ken Kimball, Ken Long, Nick Last, Pete Loomis, Mel Kimball, Brian Osborn, Ryan Dicks, Jeff Thomas (2 photos), Travis Whitlock (4 photos), and Dave Watson.

A few photos from the 2005 Big Time Hillclimb at Halter Motorsports Ranch in Fort Benton, MT.  Left to right: Jeff Thomas, Pete Loomis, Kurt Koester, Nick Last, Harold Waddell, and Travis Whitlock.

Some shots of Jason Smith from the 2005 and 2007 East-West Shootouts, one from the Halter Motorsports Ranch, one from Poag's Hole,  and the last one is from the 2006 World Trophy in France, where Jason became the World Champion.

A number of photos from the 2007 Glen Helen hillclimb...2 of Factory KTM off-road racer Kurt Caselli, 1 from the fence, one of Open Exhibition winner Travis Whitlock, a pic of Kerry and Robie Peterson (sadly, the mini Glen Helen flag growing out of the helmet couldn't be surgically removed, and the helmet had to be put down) - then several more of 2-class winner Robie Peterson.
