| Most Memorable Moments: |
"My most memorable moment in hill climbing would probably when I got my first open class and King of the hill win at Idaho’s Big Nasty Hillclimb in 2006. The hill was one of the most difficult we had on the circuit that season and it was extremely hot to add to it. The previous year it was also very hot and I ended up getting heat stroke, crashing, and having to go to the hospital. I came back with a goal the next year to win it and redeem myself. Everyone was riding there best and in the 700cc class I ended up getting a 3rd which gave me some confidence for the Open class which was coming up next. I was one of the first riders over in the Open class and my run held throughout both round so I didn’t have to make a second run and I took first. I made it into the final shootout for the King of the hill which was against Jason Smith, Travis Whitlock, Ryan Dicks and Austin Fox. We had one run and I was last to go. The high mark was set by Travis when my turn came around and I was shaking I was so nervous. I gathered myself before I drop the clutch and knew what I had to do. I hit the first of multiple ledges and my rear end shot out to the right, I remember thinking it was all over but I managed to save the swap and scratch my way up the hill a little farther. I finally came to a stop and started yelling at the hill workers “Did I do it!?!?” The shout from the bottom of the hill from my family and friends confirmed it and I threw my hands up in glory. It was the most memorable moment in my career so far, but hopefully not the last…" |
